HONEST REVIEW - Caydo's i-Cord Maker and M1 Electric Yarn Winder

When Caydo offered to send me their electric i-Cord Maker to review... I had to say yes. I've been saying no to most free products lately, but this is something I wanted to give my sister for Mother's Day. So, I couldn't resist trying it out! They also offered to send me their M1 Electric Yarn Winder, which I thought about for a minute, but also agreed to review 😂 (This blog post contains affiliate links to the products! This does not change how I review them, tho, I stay honest because I don't like liars or manipulators 😂)
My sister is an amazing mother and crafter, and she got into crochet recently(the last year or two!)
She almost exclusively uses chunky yarn, so I thought this would be the perfect gift to knit all her 3 and 4 weight yarns into chunky goodness 🥰

Lo and behold, I'm starting to fall in love with this little machine, and I've been wanting to make a chunky crochet basket out of it.. I'm gonna put a bunch of miles on this thing and let y'all know how it's still running afterwards! So bookmark this blog post so you can see updates!

We are going to talk about the electric i-Cord Maker and M1 Electric Yarn Winder at the same time:
All the Parts
The i-cord Maker came with a threading crochet hook to thread the knitting machine, spare hooks, grease, a foam holder to use during hook replacement, the yarn guide, a sewing needle to thread the cord closed, a screw and screwdriver.
The Yarn Winder came with itself(obivously, lol), it's own yarn guide, plus a screw and screwdriver.
I like how the i-Cord Maker came with a wall plug, I wish the yarn winder came with a wall mount, it only had the USB plug-in. They both have C-ports.

Ease of Assembly
Putting the knitting machine(i-Cord maker) together was a breeze! It came with the baby screw and screwdriver to attach the yarn guide (tensioner, as I call it, lol). All I had to do was screw it together, plug it in, and it was ready to go.
The same thing applies for the electric yarn cake winder. I put the yarn guide into the base(the metal piece slides in), screwed it in place, and plugged it in! Done!

Threading the Machine
I decided to only read the instructions on how to thread the knitting i-cord maker, and not watch a video... like a rebel. It took me probably longer than it should have to thread it, it was a little complicated for me to understand. Eventually I got it, and now I can thread it without looking at the instructions at all!
BE CAREFUL with the hooks though! They are sharp! If you put your finger in too deep in the i-Cord maker, like I did on accident, and pull your fingers back, all fast and willy-nilly, you will cut yourself good. Keep your fingers outside and away from the pointy parts when the hooks are open, and you'll be just fine.

As for the Yarn Winder, it was super easy. Just make sure that you are gentle with the metal springs. Mine got stuck, but I was able to un-stick it, and thread the yarn through pretty easy after that. Just be gentle, and don't rush like me 😂 I do like how it goes through so many loops before it gets to the winder. It even undid some of the mini tangles of yarn while it was going!

Ease of Use
After the i-Cord Maker is threaded and ready to go, it does most of the work itself! I just sit back and watch. The only things you have to do:
Make sure that the yarn that is being fed in is untangled and free so that machine doesn't stop.
Be ready to turn the machine off when the yarn is about to run out.
Take the i-Cord off the hooks and thread them closed. (I read the instructions on how to do it, and it's pretty simple)
Other than that, it's just fun to watch the machine go! The hooks do some crazy work 😂
I do love how it automatically pauses when the yarn is caught or tangled in the tensioner. After that happened to me a few times, I watched the yarn more closely, or just turned the speed down.
It's similar feedback for the yarn cake winder~ make sure the yarn is not tangled before it feeds into the electric machine, and be ready to turn the cake winder off when it's done. You'll see in my video the dance party I had with it when it was done winding my yarn 😂 --> Yarn Winder Review Video
I will add that the yarn winder winds up your cakes TIGHT, I'm going to troubleshoot using less of the tensioners on the yarn guide to see if it will wind it looser.

Noise Levels
Caydo's knitting i-Cord maker is NOT quiet, hahaha! It has three speeds and gets louder with each speed. You can hear and judge for yourself when you watch my video. I personally don't care, but if someone else was in the room with me, I would make sure that it didn't bother them. I'm in a camper with my husband, and he doesn't mind as of now, haha. I probably wouldn't use it if he was on the phone or trying to watch something important because it's pretty noisy in a small space. -> Video of how loud it is on high speed <-
As for the electric yarn winder, it's not as loud as the i-Cord maker, but it has some whirring noises. Once again, for me, it's not bad, and I don't mind it. Watch my video to make your own opinions for the noise levels. I think it will be different for everyone. --> Video <--

Price
Here are the current prices (as of May 18th, 2026):
Caydo's i-Cord Maker - $199.99 (usually on sale for $149.99) - This is a pricey machine, but it's niche. So, if you're someone who really wants to get into all the knitted i-Cord art, it's worth it. But if not, make sure you have some knit, crochet, wire, rug, blanket, or whatever, projects that you actually plan on doing! This machine is too expensive to just get and let it collect dust. They also have a manual i-Cord Maker that is a lot cheaper and may be a good investment if you want to try it out.
Caydo's Electric Yarn Winder - $79.99 (usually on sale for $59.99) - I got my Craft Destiny Yarn Winder for $40, so paying $30 more for an electric one doesn't sound too bad to me. Especially when it's on sale. If this thing lasts a long time like my Craft Destiny Winder, it'll be worth the price to me!

Final Thoughts
This is just my first impression of Caydo's i-Cord Maker, but first impressions (along side longevity) are important. I like this little noisy machine 😂 and I can't wait to make a basket with it! (Make sure to join my email list so you are notified when it's made, I hope to make some free instructions for it!) I already started it:

They both seem sturdy, as of now, and I'm gonna run some miles of yarn on these things to see how long they last!
I like how easy it was to assemble and thread them, I feel like anyone could do it with some practice.
The Yarn Winder is gonna help speed track my Decluttering Journey! I've been taking a lot of projects apart and organizing my yarn, so this PLUS my manual non-electric yarn winder, will help me get it done SO much faster :) I let it run by itself for the first time yesterday, and it got two cakes done while I was cleaning up. I'm saving quite a bit of time.
The Ball Winder winds the cakes a bit too tight for me, but as I mentioned earlier, I'm going to troubleshoot and see if I can make it looser.
They are gonna be out of budget for a lot of people, so manual yarn winders work just as good, but manual i-Cord Makers (I had a little blue tube one back in the day) are super slow compared to the electric one 😅
