I live in a camper, so I don't have my own tree up, sadly, because we just have no space, but I'm planning on putting mine on my family's trees, because why not! I may even make a mini beanie garland! Imagine how cute that would be ❣️🎅🏾

But enough of me talking about my hopes and dreams, let's get into the free pattern!

Connecting Sides of Hat

Sl st your last row and the beginning row of your ornament together. Do this by folding it in half, and slip stitching through a stitch from your last row, and the corresponding chain from your starting chain.

Sewing the Top of The Mini Beanie Together

  • Cut your yarn and fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing the top of your beanie ornament. Put your yarn through a darning needle.

  • Insert your needle into the next row, and then insert it through the next row towards you (the opposite direction). This is basically doing a running stitch around the top of your crochet hat.

  • After you go all the way around your hat, pull the yarn to tighten the top of the hat.

  • Now use your needle to sew across the top of the hat to secure it, tie a knot, then sew in the end, and turn your hat inside out.

Loop to hang ornament:

Make a slip knot, put it on your hook, and chain 14, fasten off. Make a longer chain if you wish. (The beanie with the longer chain in my pictures is 24 chains, the one below is 14)

Let's Make a Pom Pom!
  • Cut two six inch strands of yarn.

  • Now, get your yarn again, and wrap it around 4 of your fingers 50 times.

  • Take the yarn off your fingers and place it in the middle of the two strands of yarn.

  • Tie the two strands very tightly around the middle of your pom pom, (I did an overhand knot twice.)

Now cut the top and bottom loops of your pom pom. Now shape your pom pom with your scissors until you get the size and pom pom-ness you desire.

Attaching the pom pom + loop to the hat:
  • Get your hook, and poke it from the inside out of your hat, very close to the top of the hat.

  • Grab one end of a six inch strand of your pom pom(this is two strands), and one end of your loop, and pull it through to the inside of your hat with your hook.

  • Now put your hook through the inside of your hat across from where you previously did, very close to the top tip of the hat, use it to pull the other end of your pom pom and loops to the inside of your mini beanie.

Turn your hat inside out and tie the ends together securely a few times, then cut the extra length.

Turn your hat inside out and you’re done!
